Case Histories

We are working with a variety of clients, for which we have configured appropriate solutions - from establishment of full Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to monitoring, education and carbon management systems. Some examples follow.

Shortenills Centre is the flagship of environmental education for Buckinghamshire County Council with over two thousand children and teachers attending their day and residential courses each year. In 2004, the installation of a new biomass boiler brought the potential to monitor, record and unequivocally demonstrate the sustainability credentials of Shortenills. Ian Duckworth, Head of Centre, choose Ceradon’s CeraScape environmental management software to turn opportunity into reality. When it comes to engaging children with the realities of their influence on resource consumption (and a meaningful application of a bar chart), Ian has described this application of CeraSchool as “amazingly successful”. Shortenills became an accredited Eco-Centre in March 2005. For more details download Eco_Centre_Study.

North Somerset Council have been using our tools since 2005 to establish an Environmental Management System. The internet hosted toolset has been used to build environmental statements tailored to meet specific needs of targeted sites. These statements gradually evolve to provide access to all information necessary to support their EMS programme, be they paper documents, electronic documents or updated registers of aspects, objectives and targets. An automated legal register maintains an inventory of relevant legislation and can be used to continually prompt staff to track their performance in support of multiple legal requirements. Buckinghamshire County Council helped some of their schools install wind turbines and photo-voltaic panels. They soon realised that they would be missing a trick if they didn’t monitor what was being produced, so they invited us to install CeraSchool.
It is all very well to have a numeric panel showing what is being generated at any moment, but teachers tell us that this is not very meaningful to most children. CeraSchool captures a range of data from the inverters and from weather stations and brings the salient information together in comprehensible displays, on foyer screens, in classrooms, in IT suites, on interactive whiteboards - anywhere there is an network connection.
